In this article, we’re going to teach you how to calibrate and use your digital pH tester/measurement meter. Follow the steps below to know how to make the most out of your pH meter.
Step 1: Determine pH Solution
Before you start using the pH Meter, make sure that the probe has been stored in a pH four solution or storage solution. If this isn’t the case, soak your pH meter’s probe in distilled water for at least 24 hours. Doing so will ensure that it will provide accurate readings without any hindrance.
Step 2: Prepare for Calibration
Check if the meter is set in pH mode. If it isn’t, fix it right away before rinsing the probe of your meter in distilled water. After rinsing, shake the meter off before placing it in a pH seven solution. This solution will help calibrate the pH meter and ensure that it will give out accurate readings.
Step 3: Stabilize the Meter
Let the digital pH tester/measurement instrument remain in the solution for at least 30 seconds. This amount of time will allow the meter to stabilise and be ready for testing. Afterwards, adjust the meter so that it will read pH 7. Make sure you do this crucial step as it will determine the accuracy of the pH meter in its readings moving forward.
Step 4: Continue with Calibration
Once you’ve verified it for pH seven calibration, rinse the meter once again before placing it into a pH four solution. It will give the meter time to read and stabilise properly. Adjust the meter back so that it will read pH 4. After this process, your meter is already calibrated at this point. It’s now ready for testing.
Step 5: Prepare for Sample Liquid
Rinse the probe once again and shake off any excess liquid. Make sure the probe is completely dry. Once it dries off, it’s now ready to be placed in your sample liquid for testing. Make sure you place the probe correctly as it will be crucial to get accurate readings.
Step 6: Record pH Reading
After allowing the pH meter to settle as you’ve done before, you’re now ready to take the pH reading of your sample. Make sure you record the initial reading right away.
Step 7: Finishing Up
Once you’ve finished your testing, store your pH meter in a pH four solution or storage solution. Repeat all the steps when you’re going to use it again.
